For the Love Of Primates

For the Love of Primates' mission is to create and support a sanctuary for primates retired from laboratory research or previously kept as pets. We also provide free environmental education opportunities for children from communities that are typically underrepresented in STEM fields, reaching over 1,000 children throughout Ohio in the past 2 years. Finally, we serve as animal welfare consultants for our laboratory partners, working to improve the welfare of primates both in retirement and in the laboratory setting.

Our sanctuary will reside on a nearly 60-acre forested property in Central Ohio. Our first phase of construction will include naturalistic enclosures for up to 80 primates to create an enriched and stimulating environment for our animals to live with members of their own species. It is our goal to help create more sustainable and ethical primate retirement practices, and to serve as a replicable example so that more sanctuaries can be established to help provide lifelong housing for retired primates. The replicability of our sanctuary model, and our services as animal welfare consultants, will allow us to impact thousands of primates – far beyond just those physically housed in our sanctuary.

The Greater Sum provides strategic training and mentoring for early stage nonprofit innovators. We invest in organizations who are providing new solutions to old problems, and are ready to expand the scale of their impact. We share their stories so that other philanthropists like you have the opportunity to do the same. If you represent a grant-making organization and would like to be connected with these organizations, contact us directly and we’ll make an introduction! Individuals interested in connecting with For the Love of Primates, please visit their website for more information.

The Greater Sum supports organizations that are scaling their impact, either by expanding their service area or by teaching other organizations to replicate their innovation. Why are we excited about the Promising Practices cohort? Because they’re graduates of our Financial Strategy incubator, we know they’re mapping out a plan for sustainable impact. When they applied for funding they created a Pitch Deck that describes the problem the organization was founded to address, the solution they have created, and resulting outcomes. We invest in teams; the pitch deck shows how the leadership of For the Love Of Primates is laying the groundwork for success.
